Scan & Translate is a free utility. It does not contain advertising, analytics, subscriptions, in-app purchases or cross-app tracking.
Information handled on the device
The app stores projects, source text, translations, source images, recordings, prepared audio, reading preferences, provider choices and setup state inside the app's private container.
Camera OCR, document reconstruction, Whisper transcription, Apple voice synthesis, project storage and prepared-audio playback run on the device.
Camera, microphone, photo-library and document access are requested only when the corresponding feature needs them. The app does not upload a recording, camera image, imported file or project merely because it has been opened.
Translation providers
You explicitly choose a provider before translation. The app does not silently switch providers.
OpenAI Responses API
The source text is sent to OpenAI through your connected ChatGPT plan authorization. Requests use store=false. For live image translation, the paused image and its locally recognised OCR regions are sent only when OpenAI is selected and you start that translation.
store=false disables Responses application-state storage; it is not a promise of zero data retention. OpenAI may retain request content in abuse-monitoring logs according to your account's data controls and OpenAI's published retention policy.
Apple High-Fidelity Translation
Translation runs on the device after the required Apple language assets are installed. Project content is not sent to OpenAI when this provider is selected.
Account credentials
ChatGPT authorization credentials are stored in the iOS Keychain. Disconnecting ChatGPT removes the local credential and asks OpenAI to revoke the remote session. Scan & Translate does not contain or request a separate OpenAI API key.
Retention and deletion
Projects remain on the device until you remove them or delete the app. Saved translations and prepared audio can be removed individually. The app does not operate an account database or retain a separate server-side copy of projects.
Children, advertising and tracking
The app does not serve advertising, create advertising profiles, use third-party analytics SDKs or track activity across other companies' apps and websites.
Changes to this notice
This page will be updated when the app's data handling changes. The date at the top identifies the current version.
